Study, one of twelve leaves from a sketchbook of medieval ecclesiastical building and furnishings in North Yorkshire, including Bolt on Abbey, Richmond, West Tanfield, Jervaulx Abbey and All Saints Church, York, by A.W.N. Pugin. Pencil, pen and ink on paper, c. 1833.

Object history
There is no mention in Pugin's surviving diaries of a visit to these places, and stylistically the drawings seem to be early works. A date of ca.1833 is therefore suggested. At this period Pugin was making an intense study of medieval architecture.
