Get It On

Award
1971 (manufactured)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This silver disc was presented to the band T.Rex in 1971 for selling 250,000 copies of their single Get It On in the UK. This award was created by the band's record label, Fly Records, as there was no official metallic disc award system in the UK until the British Phonographic Industry Association instigated it in 1973.

Get It On was T.Rex's biggest selling single ever in the UK. Although it was only at number one for four weeks, with their previous single Hot Love spending six weeks at the top earlier that year, it sold nearly a million copies. It began the heights of "T.Rextasy" (hysterical scenes amongst teenagers, similar to "Beatlemania") and was also their only hit in the USA.
