Object history | This doll was owned and the clothes hand made by Lucy Lloyd, sister of the donor, when she was a young girl in the 1960s and 1970s. Her and her sister were active members of the Brownies and the Guides and both hand stitched these outfits that mirror their own respective Brownie and Guide uniforms. The shoes were particularly designed by Eleanor and her sister to have an elasticated back so they could be slipped on and off the doll with ease. The Guide outfit she has made for her doll corresponds with the same one she had-the doll belongs to the same pack, the 3rd Welwyn Garden City Guides as Lucy; the doll which she named Mariah, has achieved the same skills badges as her owner, such as tea making and first aid. |
