Object history
Associated Production: Birth of Beauty: Harlequin William the Conqueror!, or, the Pretty White Horse with the Golden Hoof. Sanger's Amphitheatre. ca.1872. Performance category: pantomime, circus, equestrian drama. The poster advertises the performance as taking place in 'The New Grand Amphitheatre', and advertises the theatre as 'Sanger's late Astley's'. The theatre was remodelled in 1872 and went under Sanger's management, so this poster is likely to be fairly soon after 1872. The theatre was condemned as unsafe and demolished in 1893.
