Object history
Associated Production: Variety programme starring Stan Stennett. Performers: Stan Stennett (comedy star from the Black and White Minstrel show), Johnny Tudor (singer), Paula Lee, Roy Lester, Lesley King, Judy Fielder, The Falcons, Ballet Montparnasse. Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl, Wales. 30.6.1970. Performance category: variety, black and white minstrel show. This production featured Jimmy Currie's dancing waters.

NB 'Black and white minstrels' or 'blackface minstrelsy' originated in the United States around 1830 and was based on racist negative stereotypes of African Americans. White performers used black make-up to blacken their skin. Blackface minstrelsy played a significant role in cementing and proliferating racist attitudes. The term is repeated here in its original historical context.
