Hanging cards were displayed in shops to publicise performances. This card advertises a two-week season by Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House, Manchester, in 1976. Five programmes of ballets were performed: La File mal gardée; Concerto performed with Lulu and The Lady and the Fool; Les Rendezvous and The Two Pigeons; Coppélia; The Four Temperaments performed with a new ballet by Lynn Seymour and The Sleeping Beauty Act III. Some of the matinee performances were prefaced by a lecture demonstration entitled A Journey through Ballet.
The hanging card is illustrated with a photograph of the vivacious Brenda Last in Frederick Ashton’s ballet Les Rendezvous.
