Every year the fine art handling company Momart commissions an artist to design the corporate Christmas greeting which it sends to customers and contacts in the art world.

For Christmas 2004 Momart commissioned the artist Paul McDevitt (born Scotland 1972). McDevitt's work draws on the found imagery of a disposable visual culture, such as magazine illustrations, anonymous graphic design, and municipal murals and street graffiti. His vision has overtones of 1960s’ psychedelia and 1990s’ rave music, and he creates lushly coloured but chaotic landscapes. His approach is analogous to contemporary dance music, in that he samples his chosen sources and then brings them together using digital technology. He thus produces a kind of seamless collage of recycled imagery.

Here he has chosen the format of a tea towel - the kind of thing which is often given as a gift at Christmas - printed with a snowy landscape described in vivid colours in a paint-by-numbers style.
