POSTER FOR HENRY IRVING’S FINAL PERFORMANCES
1905

In 1905 the famous actor/manager Henry Irving was in the second year of his prolonged farewell tour. He was not in good health and planned to retire in 1906. At Bradford’s Theatre Royal on 13 October, he played the leading character in Alfred Tennyson’s play, Becket, and then collapsed and died in his hotel. There was national mourning for this popular star.
