Gallery rotation, 2020 POSTER FOR THE ETERNAL CITY 1904 Although little known today, Hall Caine was a hugely popular author who adapted his 1901 novel The Eternal City into a play just a year after its publication. This production by Beerbohm Tree’s company toured Britain and the world. Caine’s story of love and Italian politics was filmed several times.
