Pictorial and typographic poster advertising a production of The Lady Slavey by George Dance (1857-1932), at the Avenue Theatre, Northumberland Avenue, London, 1894. The poster features images of three characters from the play. One, a young man dressed in a navy uniform is seated on the ground, he is looking up towards a young woman. This woman is dressed in a black and white maid's uniform. In her left hand she is holding an envelope and she is looking down towards the man. The last figure is positioned to the right of the poster. He is dressed in a long dark coat, edged with fur, the interior lined with an American flag. His hands are resting on his belt and his gaze is directed over his left shoulder towards a point in the distance.
