The King's Head Theatre was instrumental in establishing London's fringe scene. Founded in 1970, its eclectic programme fostered new writers. Stewart Parker, whose award-winning first play Spokesong was staged at the King's Head in 1976, returned in 1978 with 'the first Caribbean-Irish musical London has ever seen'.
