Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Poster advertising London Festival Ballet's 30th anniversary season at the London Coliseum, 4 March - 5 April 1980.

This poster is unusual as the photographer, Anthony Crickmay, disliked any intervention with his images and the image of Petrouchka has been hand coloured on a black and white photograph. Petrouchka was a significant ballet for London Festival Ballet:they had been the first British company to mount the work in 1950 and had restaged it on a number of occasions.

Anthony Crickmay began his career as an assistant to the Austrian portrait photographer, Lotte Meitner-Graf, who had a studio in London's Bond Street in the late 1940s. Crickmay set up his own studio in 1958 where he built up a high-profile range of sitters, including members of the royal family, and developed an international reputation as a photographer of theatre, opera, and especially dance.
