POSTER FOR THE MIKADO
1887

The Mikado was a huge success at the Savoy Theatre, where it opened in March 1885. The popularity of Gilbert and Sullivan’s works encouraged their producer Richard D’Oyly Carte to send out touring companies that all performed the same opera. This Cheltenham performance was staged by the fifth of D’Oyly Carte’s companies to tour The Mikado in 1887.
