Place of origin |
The Coliseum Theatre Harrow opened in 1923 as a cinema, built by the founders of Hammer Films. It was redesigned in 1940 as a 2,000-seat theatre for use by the 'actors' MP' Alfred Denville MP, a theatre impresario, philanthropist, a leading name in touring and repertory theatre and the founder of the actors' home Denville Hall which his fund-raising made possible.
The theatre was still open in the mid-1950s, with touring productions including Elkan and Barry Simmons' revival of Floradora and this Hedley Claxton 'comedy pantomime', the twice-daily Puss in Boots: 'in seventeen sparkling scenes'.
The poster notes the best methods of transport to the theatre by tube, railway and bus, and that the pantomime will take place: 'until further notice', presumably depending on its success.
