In the 1910s and 1920s the London Coliseum was one of the city’s principal venues for dance. Individuals and companies appeared in variety bills, presenting one or two productions or a mixed divertissement, twice daily. For the week commencing 3rd July 1922 the acts includes dancers Tamara Karsavina and Alexander Gavrilov .Both performed at the Coliseum for a number of seasons. Karsavina was a principal artist of Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and Diaghilev was always happy if Karsavina had a London season ahead of the Ballets Russes to 'warm up' the audience. Alexander Gavrilov had also appeared with the Ballets Russes. The corps de ballet advertised on the poster consisted of three women, and the programme included L’Oiseau de Feu and Polka Les Vendredis.
