Joseph Gaspard Robert probably began experimenting with porcelain production in the mid 1760s, with clay from Alençon, and in 1769 he registered his factory's mark ('R'). The factory produced a variety of useful wares, which were sold for affordable prices and exported throughout Europe.
Robert's enterprise was one of the earliest French hard-paste factories and it remain in operation until 1794.
