Place of origin |
A coloured engraving showing the costume worn by Pierson in the role of Bazile and the dancer Mme. Louise Pierson in the role of Susanna in Almaviva et Rosine at the Théâtre de la Porte St Martin.
An additional note in the top right hand corner states:
'Ballet de Mr Blache Père mis en Scène, A Paris, par Mr. Fréderic Blache.'
A production of Almaviva et Rosine described as a 'pantomime en 3 actes, mêlée de danses' by J.B. Blache premiered at the Theatre de la Porte Saint-Martin in Paris on 19th April 1817.
This design is a duplicate of S.1037-2010 but in this case only one section of the costume being worn by Mme. Pierson has had coloured added to it. The result is that in this version of the print she appears entirely in white apart for her crimson coloured headdress. The original design appears to be part of a series of prints published by Martinet, Rue du Coq, of which this example is labelled as number 449. It is part of the Harry Beard Collection.
