A coloured engraving showing the costume worn by Pierson in the role of Blaizot in La Pie Voleuse, a 'Melodrame' at the Théâtre de la Porte St Martin.
Below the image is a quote from the play:
"Eh, pardi, vous n'avez qu'a dire tout mon Magot est ben à vot Sarvice" (Acte 3me, Scene XI)
La Pie voleuse ou La Servante de Palaiseau (The Thieving Magpie or The Servant of Palaiseu,1815) was reputedly submitted by an anonymous author to the Theatre Porte Saint Martin and subsequently rewritten by L.C. Caignez in circa 1814. It went on to make the fortune of the then theatre director, Sain Romain.
This design appears to be part of a series of prints published by Martinet, Rue du Coq, of which this example is labelled as number 427. It is part of the Harry Beard Collection.
