Le marechal de Luxembourg was a melodrama in three acts, described as 'a grand spectacle' by Frederic Dupetit-Mere (1785-1827) and Jean Bernard Eugene Cantiran de Boirie (1783-1873). It was first performed at the Théâtre de la Gaîté on the 26 September 1812.

This design appears to be part of a series of prints published by Martinet, Rue du Coq, of which this example is labelled as number 371. It is part of the Harry Beard Collection.

Physical description
This full length coloured engraving shows two men. The man on the left is dressed in a large black cloak over thigh length black boots, red breeches and a blue coat with wide red sleeves. He also wears a large black hat trimmed with a red feather. The man on the right is dressed in long blue breeches, a red sash, white shirt and long grey coat with puffed sleeve heads striped in white and black. He holds his hat, trimmed with a red, white and yellow feather in his left hand. The two men are shaking hands.
