Qui seul fait aujord'hui le sort de deau Etats" (Act IV, Scène V)

La tragedie des Horaces possibly refers to the tragedy Horace written by Pierre Corneille (1606-1684) in 1640.

This design appears to be part of a series of prints published by Martinet, Rue du Coq, of which this example is labelled as number 266. It is part of the Harry Beard Collection.

This full length coloured engraving shows a man dressed in a scarlet tunic, with a loose black belt at the waist and a narrow metal breastplate. His left arm is outstretched whilst his right grasps a long case or sheath which is suspended from a strap he wears over his shoulder.
