Le Nozzé di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) was first performed in Paris at the Théâtre de l'Imperatrice on 19th December 1807. The singer shown in this image is Marianna Barilli (1780-1813) who sang Susanna in the French premiere of this opera and was married to the bass Luigi Barilli with whom she often sang.

This design appears to be part of a series of prints published by Martinet, Rue du Coq, of which this example is labelled as number 223 and 224. It is part of the Harry Beard Collection.

Physical description
This full length coloured engraving shows a woman dressed in an empire line dress of white satin with a long train and an upstanding lace collar. Her dress is trimmed with bands of gold at the centre front, shoulders and sleeve heads. She is seated on a scarlet and gold chair in the midst of an opulent room and holds a handkerchief in her left hand and a feathered quill in her right.
