A coloured engraving showing the singers Jean Pierra Solié as Jacob and the soprano Marie-Alexandrine Gavaudan (1781-1850) as Benjamin in Joseph, a 'Drame Lyrique' at the Théâtre de l'Opera Comique.

Below the image is a quote from the play:
"Benjamin! sépare-toi vîte de ces méchans. L'innocence doit-elle se trouver au sein du crime?" (Acte III, Scene VI)

Jean-Pierre Solié (1755, Nîmes – 6 August 1812, Paris) was a French cellist and operatic singer. He began as a tenor, but became best known for his later baritone roles. He sang most often at the Paris Opéra-Comique and also became a prolific composer, writing primarily one-act comic operas.
