La Nuit d'Auberge was a comedy in one act written by Moreau and Auguste. It was first performed in Paris at the Thèâtre Montansier- Variétès, on 24th March 1806. This design was created by Adrien Joly (1776-1839) and appears to be part of a series of prints published by Martinet, Rue du Coq, of which this example is labelled as number 37. It is part of the Harry Beard Collection.

Physical description
This full length coloured engraving shows a male actor dressed in a short jacket, striped in green and pink, and pale buff coloured knee breeches. He is also wearing an extremely large black bicorne hat and carrying the handle of an elaborate rope whip in his right hand, whilst gripping the end of the rope in his left.
