L'Intrigue dans la Hotte, was a vaudeville production in one act by Armand Goffé and Antoine Simmonin and was first performed at the Théâtre Montansier on 8th February 1806. This design was created by Adrien Joly (1776-1839) and appears to be part of a series of prints published by Martinet, Rue du Coq, of which this example is labelled as number 34. It is part of the Harry Beard Collection.

Physical description
This full length coloured engraving shows a male actor disguised as a woman. He is wearing a dark blue gown, trimmed with white frills at the elbows and worn under a white apron, and has a white frilled cap underneath a larger, black net cap which fastens in a bow under his chin. He is riding in what appears to be a wicker sedan chair, decorated with brooms that protrude from and are attached to it, and seems to be waving to an unseen figure.
