H Beard Print Collection

Print
early 19th century (printed)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

A coloured lithograph entitled 'Costume de Feu dans Guido en Ginevia'.

The text at the top of the print indicates that it is No.226 of a series.

All the other prints in this series (all of which were published by the same printer, Aubert, either under Aubert & Cie or Aubert et de Junca) appear to have been associated with theatrical or operatic production in France in the mid 19th century. Although no specific reference to either the play or actor depicted could be found, there is a reference below the print to the 'Acad. roy. de musique' or the Académie Royale de Musique as the home of the Paris Opera company was called between circa 1830 and 1848, suggesting it is connected with an opera.

The print is part of the Harry Beard Collection.
