Print
ca. late 18th century (published)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

A lithograph of an unnamed actor, labelled 'Dejazet', 'acte 1', 'Idam (Gentil-Bernard)'. It appears to have been drawn by the artist Alexandre Lacauchie and printed by J. Rigo et Cie. It is not dated but the clothing in which the actor is dressed resembles the fashions of the late 18th century.

The handwritten note, 'Dejazet', may be a reference to the Theatre Dejazet, Paris, 'Acte 1', suggesting that it shows a costume from the first act. The reference to 'Idam (Gentil Bernard)' is more ambiguous, but could however connect the print with the poet and librettist Pierre Joseph Justin Bernard (1708-1775) who was known as 'Gentil Bernard'.

The lithograph is part of the Harry Beard Collection
