Object history | Purchased by the Museum from the manufacturer at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1855: Shown by the maker (Schlichtegroll) at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1855 and purchased there by the Museum as an example of the excellence of cheap production. Taken from PAD for 2664-1856, necklace, written by Clare Phillips The necklace is part of a larger set or parure. This includes a bracelet, brooch and earrings. These pieces were made about 1855 but were inspired by 17th century jewellery. They were specially designed to be mass produced cheaply from standardised component parts. The V&A bought this set as an example of excellence in inexpensive production. |
