Object history | A registry mark for 2nd March 1857 shows that the design was registered by Sparrow Brothers, London. For the history of the firm, trading under various names, see John Culme, Directory of Gold & Silversmiths, Woodbridge, 1987, volume 1, page 427. It was established in 1821 and is last recorded in 1891 in Kelly's Post Office Directory. Thirty-five design registrations were made between 1853 and 1881 (see National Archives website). Charles Sparrow (£100) was among the many guarantors for the London 1862 exhibition listed in the catalogue. |
