Bound sheet music for Jou La, Jou La expressly composed for Madame Vestris and sung at the Olympic Theatre in The Grenadier. The words and music were composed by A.Donnadieu and translated to English by Miss de Pontigny. The english translation of this sheet music was published by Mayhew&Co, 17 Old Bond Street.
The front sheet has a central illustration of the actress Madame Vestris standing in the midst of a rocky landscape. A small citiscape is visible in the distance and a section of a classical building appears to her right. Dressed in a feminised version of the male trousers and long jacket she wears a wide brimmed soft hat, a neckerchief and a satchel strapped across her chest. Her posture suggests that she is dancing and in her left hand she holds a string, which is attached to a small monkey dressed in striped trousers, jacket, cummerband.
