The front sheet is illustrated with a lithograph of a man and woman seated in a country landscape. The man is leaning against a cask of beer and hoists a glass in to the air with his right hand. He is dressed in a loose shirt and breeches which finish above the knee. A sash is tied around his waist and has an unseathed dagger thrust in to it. A woman is seated on his left knee. She is dressed in a loose shirt, skirt and dark, fitted bodice. Her hair is entwined with flowers and a large tambourine rests against the rock to her left.
This song formed part of a series of musical entertainments in which the singer, actor and composer Edwin Ransford performed from 1845 onwards. In this instance 'llustrations of Gipsy Life and Character' (with the words to the songs by Eliza Cook) provided the theme and inspiration.
