The front sheet is illustrated with an etching of a woodland scene in the midst of which two men are fighting with drawn swords. A woman kneels at the feet of the man on the left, and is grasping his left hand as if pleading for him to show mercy. All three figures are dressed in medieval inspired dress.

A caption below this image states that this piece was part of a series of vocal pieces from Il Trovatore the book of words for which was published in both english and italian (as used at Her Majesty's Theatre).
