Boots
ca. 2006 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Uggs were so named due to their ugly appearance. However the boot's design has become a popular fashion statement with celebrities and on the high street with many different variants and brands becoming available from the 2000s onwards. Uggboots, originally from Australia were first manufactured in the 1970s from sheepskin with a woollen lining. Different types of sheepskin boots have been worn for practical work for much of the 20th century.
Uggs have been a popular brand of boot for surfers to keep their feet warm after being in the water. The fleece draws away moisture, keeping the feet dry and at body temperature.
Due to the brand's popularity and the look of the boots, many different synthetic and cheaper examples have appeared on the market.
