This mezzotint portrait shows the actor Fred Terry in the role of Sir Percy Blakeney from the stage adaptation of Baroness Orczy's The Scarlet Pimpernel. This production (which Terry and his wife and partner Julia Neilson adapted for the stage with J. M. Barstow) premiered at the Haymarket Theatre in 1905. It proved extremely popular, and was frequently revived, establishing Sir Percy Blakeney as one of Terry's most famous roles.
