For the modern parent and child potty designs have developed far beyond earlier wooden, ceramic or pewter chamber pots.

Designs and brands are now numerous. This spanish design by Jane encourages successful potty training by making it fun for the child. Having an interesting playful design, such as a motorbike, encourages the child to sit on the potty.

Object history
This potty was donated to the museum by Johnston Prams & Buggies Ltd for the 2010 exhibition 'Sit Down: Seating for Kids'. It forms part of the section 'Who are seats for? Eating and pooping', which explores how highchairs and potties help a young child exist in a larger world where chairs are adapted for their smaller bodies. It was acquired to show the development of potty design next to older examples.
