Presentation Album
circa 1838 (printed)
Artist/Maker

A twenty foot long printed tableau of the procession at the coronation of Queen Victoriaon the 28th of June 1838. The majority of the figures, horses and buildings are printed in black ink but colour has been added to carriages and uniforms of the figures in the procession.

A printed plate in the front of the outer cover declares that copies of this tableau were sold for nine shillings or in full colour for fourteen. This plate also proudly states that the tableau is based upon drawings 'made under the immediate superintendence of the Master of the Horse; and the Carriages of the Ambassadors from Drawings made exclusively for this work, by express permission of the Ambassadors.' It was sold as a souvenier, both to those who wished for a record of the tableau and also to those who were not able to witness the procession themselves.

The tableau records 'the different equipages of the Ambassadors, Life Guards, the carriages of the Princes and Princesses of the blood, as well as those of the Queen's household, together with the Military Staff and Aides-de-camp, Royal Huntsmen, Marshalmen, Junior and Senior Exons which preceded the Royal Carriage, drawn by eight grey [horses].'
