Pelham Puppets was a hugely popular British toy making company set up in 1947 by Bob Pelham in Malborough, Wiltshire. From 1947 to the closure of the business in 1993 they made thousands of different characters and ranges of puppets for children including hand and marionette varieties.
Pelham puppets used simple construction methods, materials and influences that reflected the decades in which they were made. Pelham puppets often took influence from popular fairy tales and stories for their puppets. This particular puppet depicts Andy Pandy from the very popular childrens BBC television programme in the 1960's.

Physical description | JC marionette puppet of Andy Pandy made on a junior control for younger children to use. made with solid head, hands and feet with strings attached through drilled holes through the hands and feet. He is dressed in his traditional outfit from the television program of a blue and white stripe all-in-one outfit with cream felt collar. He also is wearing a little blue bonnet with white edge embroidered detail. He has painted flesh tone face and hands and has blue painted shoes with yellow wool hair poking out beneath his bonnet. |
