Swatow dish of porcelain. The dish is bowl-shaped, with rounded sides, turned-out rim and tapering footrim. There is grit on the base. The designs are painted in black outline washed over with turquoise. In the centre, a large circular panel depicts the approach to the Daoist Isles of the Blest, a gate leads to a circular enclosure containing two kneeling figures, on the far side of which is a pagoda. The sea beyond, dotted with boats and with buildings and figures on its banks, gives on to the island peaks, on which grow tall trees. Round the sides are four ogee-bordered panels containing figures in landscapes, and between them, four large seals in red consisting of four characters each.
