The sketch is of a full length image of a gentleman in a blue military uniform. He wears a black bicorne hat with a tall black and blue feather on the right hand top edge. Two wide white sashes are worn crossed over his chest, reaching from the epaulets that adorn each shoulder to his hip. He also wears shin length black, tasselled, boots and the base of a sword is just visible behind his left knee. The sketch is mounted on heavy cardboard covered in a blue cloth.
A note on the back of the sketch indicates that it is part of a pair of sketches which were initially part of a sale that took place in Paris in 1882.
