Taken from a set of illustrations from the designs of Leon Bakst for The Sleeping Princess which were originally published by Ben Brothers in 1923, this illustration is labelled 'Planche XLVI: Le Fiancé Anglais'. He is dressed in a heavy, wide skirted blue jacket, with wide turned back sleeves to reveal the white lining and decorated with gold. Tight black breeches are just visible below. He has a pink sash across his chest and carries a black hat under his left arm, trimmed with a white feather. Harry Beard Collection.
Only 1000 copies of the original, limited edition, book were published by Benn Brothers.
