Taken from a set of illustrations from the designs of Leon Bakst for The Sleeping Princess which were originally published by Ben Brothers in 1923, this illustration is labelled 'Planche XXIX: 'Le Prince Charmant a la Cour'. It shows a man in a full skirt knee length jacket with wide turned back cuffs trimmed with white and silver lace and striped silver fabric. The main body of the jacket is white and decorated with spiralling gold motifs. He wears a wide scarlet and pink sash around his hips and across his chest. Beneath the jacket he wears a frilled shirt and wide white and silver breeches. He is also carrying a long, silver bottomed, cane, wearing a dark, wide brimmed hat trimmed with silver and decorated with a red ribbon and two large white feathers. His shoes are dark and trimmed with red and silver ribbons. Harry Beard Collection.
Only 1000 copies of the original, limited edition, book were published by Benn Brothers.
