Taken from a set of illustrations from the designs of Leon Bakst for The Sleeping Princess which were originally published by Ben Brothers in 1923, this illustration is labelled 'Planche XXV: 'Décor de la Poussée des Lilas'. It shows the outline of small figure with a wide skirted purple and white dress (probably the Lilac Fairy). This figure is dwarfed by the the violet and green paint strokes surrounding it, and convey the impression of a vast landscape filled with large sprays of lilacs. Harry Beard Collection.
Only 1000 copies of the original, limited edition, book were published by Benn Brothers.
The Diaghilev production of this ballet was stage at the Alhambra Theatre in 1921.
