Taken from a set of illustrations from the designs of Leon Bakst for The Sleeping Princess which were originally published by Ben Brothers in 1923, this illustration is labelled 'Planche XIV: 'La Princesse Aurore'. It shows a women in wide skirted, polonaise, style dress with a red underdress and a deep scarlet overdress. Both are trimmed with white frills at the hem and edges and the underskirt is decorated with silver tassels and ribbons. The neckline of the bodice is very low cut and it has tight, short sleeves. The dancer also wears circlets of white lace at her elbows and is looking over her left shoulder in to the distance. Harry Beard Collection.
Only 1000 copies of the original, limited edition, book were published by Benn Brothers.
The Diaghilev production of this ballet was stage at the Alhambra Theatre in 1921.
