Taken from a set of illustrations from the designs of Leon Bakst for The Sleeping Princess which were originally published by Ben Brothers in 1923, this illustration is labelled 'Planche XI: 'Columbine'. It shows a masked women in wide skirted, harlequin style dress belted at the waist and decorated printed with red and black squares which are outlined in gold. The dancer wears red shoes with white heels, a white hat, white gloves and white mask. Harry Beard Collection.
Only 1000 copies of the original, limited edition, book were published by Benn Brothers.
The Diaghilev production of this ballet was stage at the Alhambra Theatre in 1921.
