Print entitled 'The Jugglers, Sir R. Collier's appointment at this time excited considerable indignation', satirising Robert Porrett Collier's appointment to office by the then Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone. Gladstone forms the based of the circus-like Troupe, Collier performs at the peak. The print is accompanied by the following verse:
What can't they do? Vault, keap, fence, dance, and climb,
Turn somersaults to cries of "Houpla, houp!"
And witch the world with noble pantomime,-
Ne'er were such jugglers as the Gladstone Troupe.
Pitchforked aloft, the trembling Collier grips
The outstretched arms of the sustaining group.
"There's no deception, gents," comes from the lips
Of the chief juggler of the Gladstone Troupe.
What can't they do? Vault, keap, fence, dance, and climb,
Turn somersaults to cries of "Houpla, houp!"
And witch the world with noble pantomime,-
Ne'er were such jugglers as the Gladstone Troupe.
Pitchforked aloft, the trembling Collier grips
The outstretched arms of the sustaining group.
"There's no deception, gents," comes from the lips
Of the chief juggler of the Gladstone Troupe.
