Place of origin |
This dark, hand coloured, transparency shows two figures in kilts and plaid in conversation with three male witches. These witches are gathered around a cauldron the smoke from which billows into the faces of the figures in scottish dress (one of whom is presumably intended to represent Macbeth). The 'witches' are dressed in flowing tunics and triangular hats which contrast with the feathered bonnets of the men they are addressing. The background, which appears to be the inside of a cave, is largely in darkness, though a crescent moon is visible through a gap in the cave's ceiling and two white skeletons (concealed behind the witches) foreshadowing the fate of Macbeth and his companion.
