Place of origin |
Established in 1941 as a subsidiary of the furniture and furnishings store Heal & Sons, Heal's Wholesale & Export Limited of London collaborated with designers and became well-known for inventive design in a 'contemporary' style. This style of design featured abstract forms and shapes, and emerged from the Festival of Britain in 1951. Mobile was produced using the familiar colour scheme for these designs - vivid reds and yellows as well as a grey-green colour for the background. These patterns had a lasting influence on textile design in Britain throughout the 1950s, and the colourful designs were a welcome change from the dull colours used for textiles during the Second World War.
