Table
About 1878–80
Originally from Germany, Gustave and Christian Herter founded Herter Brothers, a leading New York cabinetmaking and interior decorating company. Herter furniture combined the latest designs with excellent craftsmanship and often luxurious materials. The bold structural design of this table reflects the ideas of the English designer and writer Charles Eastlake, as well as the influence of Japanese art.
