Vase of copper with bulbous body and spreading circular foot and neck; the outside is decorated in coloured cloisonne enamel with bands of dragons chasing pearls amid waves, and floral scrolls on a turquoise blue ground. There are two ring handles, which together with the inside of the copper rim were originally gilt. Mark on base.

Object history | Purchased from Christie's, accessioned in 1894. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project. According to registration records, this vase was the property of the late General Gordon. |
