This engraving, by Woodman & Mutlow, from William and James Pain’s British Palladio: or, the Builder’s General Assistant, is an example of an ornamental print made for the use of builders. It shows a wide variety of different cornices and friezes, with measurements. It also gives instructions such as ‘To proportion these cornices with the frize [sic] & necking, give them 3/4 of an Inch to a foot’. The ornamental motifs include leaves, birds and urns.
