Framed in a silver frame engraved above the image: PETER PAN and below the image: 1000th PERFORMANCE - MARCH 16th 1912. Hallmarked with the mark for London 1911, the maker's mark and the name of the shop 'Asprey London'.

This photograph shows the cast and stage crew of J.M. Barrie's play Peter Pan in Leeds in March 1912 when the play was on tour. Many cast members on tour played the parts they took in the production at the Duke of York's Theatre which opened on the 26th December 1911 and closed on the 10th February. Other actors seen in this photograph and whose signatures appear on the mount replaced actors in the West End company including Walter Pearce (Mr. Darling), Jane Wren (Tinker Bell) and Tootles (Verita Vivien), who didn't go on tour.

The photograph was taken to commemorate the 1000th performance of Peter Pan and was given to Pauline Chase, seen here seated in the centre with her dog. Its specially engraved silver frame is from the Bond Street firm Asprey of London. Pauline Chase, born Ellen Pauline Matthew Bliss in Washington in 1881, is best known for her long association with J.M. Barrie's play Peter Pan. She played a Lost Boy in the original 1904 production at the Duke of York's Theatre and first revival, and took the title role annually from the second revival in 1906 until the end of the Christmas 1913 revival, after which she retired. She made one film appearance in 1916 in the satirical film The Real Thing at Last, scripted by Barrie.
